One of the main reasons for adopting the COM model is to avoid any dependence on the source code of the server. Object Re-use implies one COM object using another COM object. There are two main strategies for this: Containment and Aggregation. In both cases, the client is unaware that there is more than one COM object involved. In this article, I'll consider first the underlying mechanics of containment and aggregation, and then look at the way the ATL supports the two strategies.
