- CxImageMNG is the module of CxImage used to play MNG animations. It uses the CxImage members, but to play the animation are necessary additional variables and functions. I decided to keep separated the MNG stuff from the "static" formats, to limit the growth of the base class due to the new features.

- .DLL to do the Metaphone algorithm. It's kind of like soundex, but a little more specific. I'm using this in a system I wrote in Paradox for a District Attorney's office so they can look up "similar" names.

- The .NET Framework makes things so much simpler for developers who care about security. There are a lot of useful ways to make sure that only authorized users update the database, place orders, or otherwise interact with your system. In addition, code access security ensures that only trusted code can perform certain tasks, no matter who runs the code.
In this column I focus only on one small topic: how to establish that the user running your application is authorized to perform some subtask within the application. You can extend the examples here to any application you write in Managed C++.

8999. A Safer STL Container Class
- I like to use STL containers because they are generic and fast. If you need to store many pointers to objects then STL works great and is very reliable. My problem is that I cannot trust myself. Sometimes I store a pointer in STL map and delete the object later. When the time comes to use the object again, the map has no knowledge about the object being deleted elsewhere so it returns a pointer to some memory location. The pointer is not NULL but the object is long gone. This is especially unanticipated when I use map across multiple threads. So I've created a simple wrapper class for the STL map called CTidyMap. It is far from being a "super code", but someone might find it useful. My solution is to place an unsigned int to be the first element in the object and fill it up with some magic number (I used 0xfeedface). Every time CTidyMap has to return a pointer to the object it checks the magic number first, so your program does not end up with bad pointer.
